TESTAMENT
line up: Chuck Billy (vocals)
Alex Skolnick (guitar)
Eric Peterson (guitar)
Greg Christian (bass)
Louie Clemente (drums)
In the mid of '83, The Legacy is founded in San Francisco's Bay Area. With
singer Steve 'Zetro' Sousa in the line up, in '85 the legendary (!) "First
Strike is Deadly"-demo is released. The underground-scene is enthousiast and
the times of Metallica's first demo revive. The record companies notice the
demo too, and they try all to sign the band. In '86 Sousa goes to Exodus, but
the band gets the right replacement, in person of Chuck Bill. At last, in '87
Megaforce/Atlantic signs the band. The name has to be altered into Testament,
because there's already another Legacy. The old name is promoted to the title
of their debut-LP. The intelligent thrash on this record proves that this is
one of the better bands. Also in '87 they come to Europe to play live, first on
the 'Dynamo Open Air' in Eindhoven, the Netherlands (!), later on tour with
Anthrax. End of '87, the live mini-LP "Live at Eindhoven" is released. It's a
badly produced mini album, created in a rush. But already in the spring of '88,
their second album is released: "The new Order", a technically good record but
it's lacking a bit originality, and it's also short (30 minutes). But they are
still very popular, as is proven by tours through Europe and America. End of
'88 they are again in the studio, just after their American tour and therefore
unprepared. This has however, unlike the previous time, no influence on their
third album, "Practice what you Preach".
